Yes they are. I depressed it at a slow rate because the scale had a lag. As a result, one can assume the measured weight is more or less real time, and one experimental assumption is that the system behaves as a static.

The challenge with measuring coffee grounds while tamping is that air pockets could mean you depress to a certain pressure and it readjusts.

I am confident an even better experiment could be done, and I look forward to someone doing it.
